Bought a Canva template and not sure what to do next? You’re in the right place. This guide will walk you through the entire process, from opening the template to exporting your finished design.

Step 1: Create a Free Canva Account

If you don’t have one already, go to canva.com and sign up. A free account is all you need to edit any of our templates.

After purchasing, you’ll receive a template link (it looks like canva.com/design/...). Click it. Canva will open and show you a preview of the template.

Click “Use this template” to create your own editable copy. This doesn’t modify the original - you get your own version to customize freely.

Step 3: Edit Text

Click on any text element to select it. Then simply type your own text. You can change:

  • Font - click the font name in the toolbar
  • Size - use the size dropdown or drag the corners
  • Color - click the text color button (A with a colored underline)
  • Alignment - left, center, right, or justified

Pro tip: Keep the original fonts if you like the design. They were chosen to work together.

Step 4: Replace Images

Click on any image in the template, then:

  1. Click “Replace” in the toolbar (or just delete and drag in a new one)
  2. Upload your own photos, or browse Canva’s free photo library
  3. Drag to reposition within the frame

For Airbnb hosts: Replace the placeholder photos with actual photos of your property and local area.

Step 5: Update Colors (Optional)

If you want to match your brand colors:

  1. Click any colored element
  2. Click the color swatch in the toolbar
  3. Enter your brand’s hex code (like #e94560) or pick from the palette

Our templates come in three coordinated palettes, so you might not need to change colors at all.

Step 6: Export Your Design

When you’re happy with your edits:

  1. Click “Share” in the top right
  2. Click “Download”
  3. Choose your format:
    • PDF - best for printable documents (invoices, welcome books)
    • PNG - best for social media posts
    • JPG - best for photos and web use

That’s it. Your professionally designed document is ready to use.
